Chicago PD: Episode 4.04 Review – Kevin Atwater in the spotlight

Last time on “Chicago PD” we had an episode that was all about Trudy, and as much as we loved that (Amy Morton was fantastic), tonight we are going to be shifting the focus to another cast member that doesn’t always get a lot of time in the spotlight: Kevin Atwater. Also we recently interviewed Morton about her big episode.

Of all the people to take relationship advice from on this show, the last person on your list should be Ruzek after how badly he botched his relationship with Burgess and how he is still completely clueless as to why she left him. Luckily, Lindsay knows what his advice on romance is worth, so when he starts telling her that she and Halstead should have some sort of plan now that they are living together, she’s quick to dismiss it. He tries to say that he thinks she’s avoiding going home to Halstead now that she’s been taking extra shifts at work (remember they have only been living together for 4 days) and she assures him that it’s just so that they can pay their mortgage down quickly.

We haven’t had a good Atwater story in a while, but tonight he was back in the spotlight with the case of the week. When a gang war heats up, Kevin’s younger brother, Jordan, is caught with some questionable kids, so Burgess gets him into her protection until this all cools down. When Kevin gets home he listens to what Jordan has to say and knowing what a good kid he is, Kevin decides to move past it without much fuss.

We weren’t sure Mouse was going to be gone this fast, but here we are. There’s a new girl (Jenny) working in his old job and so far she doesn’t fit in with our team – she’s a little strange, a bit of a know-it-all and she’s rubbing everyone the wrong way, that is until Voight whispers in her ear that all the allegations she’s heard about him are true. Now there’s nothing but pure terror for Jenny.

We have to say that we are loving the spotlight episodes on some of these characters we don’t know a lot about, but want to know better. Just putting this out into the universe to see what happens  – we haven’t had a good Olinsky episode in a long time and would love to see one soon, so if the “Chicago PD” gods are listening (yeah we are talking to you Dick Wolf), maybe throw us a bone?
