Grey’s Anatomy Season 13 – Some perspective on Meredith, Riggs, and Maggie

The season 13 premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy” is coming to ABC in just over one day’s time, and of course this show is going to try its best to resolve a number of different things at one time. Would it really be this series otherwise? Some of the more significant stories at the moment include Alex in the aftermath of pummeling DeLuca, Amelia and Owen figuring out their lives as newlyweds, and of course getting a chance to see what the future holds for Meredith following what happened with her and Riggs.

There have obviously been a lot of questions regarding potential tension that could be there between Meredith, Maggie, and her new potential love interest thanks in part to Maggie’s feelings for him, and some of the information about Meredith’s encounters with him that she’s yet to receive. We do understand why it’s a juicy plotline, but we love Shonda Rhimes’ perspective on this. Speaking toEntertainment Weekly, she makes it clear that this is a unique situation mostly in that there are circumstances that may cause some conversations, but at the end of the day nobody was entirely in the wrong with what went down:

“What I love about it is it’s this very innocent moment of Meredith had no idea that any of this would turn into a problem in this way, and Maggie had no idea any of this would turn into a problem in this way. He’s just a guy that she likes that she thinks might like her, and Meredith has this secret dream about this guy that she was not planning on getting involved with. I don’t think that, for either of them, anybody is doing anything wrong, because I don’t think either of them really set out to do anything in that way. I don’t know that it’s a hurtful act.”

Ultimately, maybe Meredith and Maggie will be able to figure this out and navigate this much easier than many fans thought; to us, the larger question comes down to whether or not the feelings Meredith has for him are deep enough for a relationship. This is still very early, and it is something she needs to figure out in time.
