Supergirl Season 2 – Why was the time right to introduce Superman?

Through most of the first season of “Supergirl,” we’d received a fairly-clear impression when it comes to the character of Superman: He is probably someone you weren’t going to be seeing on the show in a substantial. This was, after all, the story of Kara, and the assumption that we’d received was bringing in Clark Kent would be a distraction to that.

Luckily, we’re glad that someone decided to eventually turn that philosophy around. It’s no secret that Tyler Hoechlin is playing the show’s Man of Steel, and in the end, the executive producers determined that the timing was right in order to bring him in now. In discussing that decision to IGN, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had the following to say:

“I think we’ve spent a year establishing her, and the year ended triumphantly with her saving the world, so there wasn’t any sort of doubt that Supergirl couldn’t do it on her own. It felt like you weren’t bringing him in to save the day. It was bringing him in the same way that the crossovers with Flash and the Arrow… it becomes about a partnership. It becomes about deepening the characters’ relationships, not ‘Well, Arrow couldn’t do it alone!’ or ‘Flash couldn’t do it alone!’ So that’s why it felt right.”
